It is a rare occurrence that I specifically seek out restaurants that are vegetarian and/or health conscious. I don't know what got into me this time. When looking for a place in San Francisco to have an evening out with friends, I searched online for a nice place that serves tasty vegetarian dishes. Greens Restaurant came up quickly as a good options. Great review and location and good prices too. I suggested it to everyone and as it turns our they were very happy with the choice. Reservations were made a week in advance because it is a popular evening destination.

Parking was not a problem when we arrived to the Fort Mason area. We did not drive inside the Fort with our car but left it at a large parking area outside. From there it was a mere five minute walk to the restaurant. Fort Mason area looks nice with galleries, restaurants and office space in old buildings that were upgraded with modern designs. When we stepped into the restaurant we were stunned and awed by the amazing view. Dusk was approaching and through the floor to ceiling windows of the restaurant we could view the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and the setting sun. It was pure perfection. Even after the night set, we could still observe the lights of the city and the bridge in front of us. The atmosphere inside was of artsy elegance. Simple clean lines of the interior, with interesting artwork made this a pleasurable space. We were promptly seated. The server was very good all evening. The only mistake was bringing me a light beer when I asked for her to choose an amber for me. Our food selection included a few salads to start (garden and asparagus), Indian curry with coconut and butternut squash ravioli. The salads were well executed, fresh and tasty. Our favorite entree was the ravioli. The sauce served with ravioli was just excellent and warranted that we clean it up from the plate completely before it was taken away in the end. The curry was good though not really my cup of tea. It was well put together, spicy and tasty with a plethora of vegetables. To bring it all together in the end we ordered a vegan chocolate cake with coconut. It was the best part of the meal. Wonderful texture, chocolaty, not too sweet, awesome sauce, beautiful blend of flavors. You must try this on your visit to Greens.

The evening was very pleasant all around. We stayed here for several hours and enjoyed the company and the food very much. A very worthwhile visit to Greens Restaurant. If you are planning a nice dinner in San Francisco and as a bonus you want to impress your guests with a spectacular view this is the place to go. Do not worry that it is vegetarian. You will have better food than you imagined. Do make a reservation. Very recommended!
