Several years ago I purchased a pair of Atlantic Travel Vault 2.0 pieces of luggage. They were in the thirty and twenty-six inch sizes. I like hardcase luggage and these seemed very solid and sturdy. I took them on multiple trips and had great experience with them. They were heavy even when empty but seemed bulletproof. One thing kept malfunctioning though. The lock or, more notably, the bar that the lock latches onto kept dislodging. The remainder of the suitcase would be intact. Since these cases had a ten year warranty I took them in several times to get the locks fixed and they would be fixed promptly. In the latter part of 2007, both suitcases experienced the same exact problem again.


I proceeded to call the nearest repair centers. They informed me that Atlantic is out of business. Travelpro had bought the company. Now I would have to talk to the Travelpro service centers. Months followed, where I would take the luggage in, they would try to find the right parts and then just return them to me. Many repair centers would refuse to take the luggage because they simply had no Atlantic parts and Travelpro was not supplying them with Atlantic parts. This became somewhat annoying. The repair center people kept telling me that Travelpro could not do anything for me.

I was determined to get this resolved so I e-mailed Travelpro directly using the contact form on their web site. I received a response withing a few days instructing me to call customer service directly on the phone. During the phone conversation, the service rep gathered my information about the luggage, what I have been through so far and then offered me two possibilities. The first one was that I could find a place that has the right parts and fix the luggage at my own cost. The second option was that they would send me new luggage, not the same, but of a similar size and style ... Guess which one I selected (hint: option two) ... One condition would be to bring the used Travel Vaults to their nearest repair center where they would disassemble them for parts. I did that the next day. The repair center informed Travelpro that they received the luggage and a few weeks later I had two Case5 Travelpro suitcases at my door.

I would call this a most satisfactory resolution to my issue. I would have been very happy with having my old luggage fixed but if that could not be arranged a replacement was the next best thing.
