Cancelation fee
Charge imposed when the traveler cancels a reservation. Travel agents, hotels, airlines and other reservation systems often give a grace period during which canceling the booking is free. After this period, there is a cost associated with getting out of the deal.
Carrier
Term often associated with the name of the airline. It generally specifies a company that tranports passengers and/or cargo. Carriers are, for example: American Airlines, United, Lufthansa and others.
Carry on
Piece of luggage that a traveler takes inside the airplane cabin and whose size does not (is not supposed to) exceed the allowed dimensions set by the airline. Usually stowed in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger.
Change fee
Cost associated with modifying an original reservation or booking such as travel date, number of passengers, destination, etc.). Change fees for airlines can run into hundreds of dollars.
Class in Air Travel
Sections of the passenger cabin on the airplane differentiated based on price, passenger space, comfort, amenities, luxury, check in privileges and more. Most common air travel classes are (starting at highest price): First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy (also known as Coach).
Coach
Term used to describe the economy seating section of an airplane. This is the most commonly purchased ticket type for air travel. Some airlines also break up the coach class into various price points based on additional leg room and other ammenities.
Concierge
Hotel staff member on call to provide guests information on nearby points of interest, provide directions, suggestions, organize transport, reservations and other useful recommendations. Usually tipped for providing good service.
Concourse
Large open area, usually found at airports, railway stations or similar, used to accommodate large numbers of people. At airports, the concourse area is found in front of the gates.
Continental breakfast
Simple breakfast served at many motels and hotels, consisting of a hot beverage (coffee or tea), milk, juice, and various breads and pastries (bagels, toast, croissants, muffins,...) with butter, cream cheese and jams.
