A la carte
When ordering a meal, refers to ordering just one single food item. A la carte steak would mean just the steak without any sides.
Advance Purchase Requirement
Type of airfare that requires payment in full before travel takes place. The period is usually seven, fourteen or twenty one (or more) days prior to the trip.
Airport transfer
Passenger transport service, usually by bus, van or car from the airport to hotel or other wanted destination and vice versa. Sometimes included in the package price and sometimes provided by the hotel.
All inclusive
Usually refers to a package where all meals, activities, non alcolholic drinks and transportation are included in the advertised price. Term can vary wildly from package to package and travelers are advised to carefully examine what "all inclusive" means for their planned itinerary.
AMEX
Abbreviated term for American Express. American Express a leading global payments, network and travel company founded in 1850.
Amuse Bouche
Small, bite size foods, served at more upscale restaurants before the appetizer (and at no cost). These miniature items are provided and selected by the chef to welcome the guests, introduce the restaurant cuisine and awaken the palate.
ASTA
Short for the American Society of Travel Agents, is the world's largest association of travel professionals and the leading advocate for travel agents, the travel industry and the traveling public.
Baggage Allowance
Set of rules regarding customer luggage and established by the airline, such as luggage size, number of bags, weight, etc., that do not impose additional charges to the passengers. Exceeding these limits set off additional costs to the travelers.
Baggage Claim
Area at the airport terminal where passengers pick up their checked-in luggage after arrival to the destination. Usually consists of a moving conveyor on which the bags are placed by airport staff.
Baggage Fee
Cost associated with checking in luggage for a flight. Price is determined per bag and is also based on its weight. Incurred cost can start at fifteen dollars for one bag under fifty pounds to several hundred dollars for multiple bags over fifty pounds each. Only select airlines offer free baggage check in for US domestic flights. It is advisable to verify these fees in advance before heading to the airport.
