Resort fee
Daily charge imposed by the resort (hotel, motel, etc. ) on top of the regular room costs. This additional payment is to cover any number of resort expenses and/or amenities like the use of the pool, Internet access, beach towels, housekeeping and more. Usually in the range between ten and twenty dollars per day. Resort fee is not always disclosed in advance to the guest when making room reservations.
Baggage Claim
Area at the airport terminal where passengers pick up their checked-in luggage after arrival to the destination. Usually consists of a moving conveyor on which the bags are placed by airport staff.
Wake up call
Previously scheduled telephone call made from the hotel front desk (now mostly automated) to specific hotel room to wake up the guest or to provide a reminder.
Mini bar
Small refrigerator and/or counter space in hotel rooms stocked with drinks and refreshments for guest use. Often with key access, principally if alcoholic drinks are provided. Items are usually much costlier than if purchased in local shops.
Jet bridge
Movable enclosed structure that connects the airport terminal gate to the airplane and allows for passengers to get on or off the airplane without stepping outside.
IATA
IATA is an international trade body, created some 60 years ago by a group of airlines. Today, IATA represents some 230 airlines comprising 93% of scheduled international air traffic. The organisation also represents, leads and serves the airline industry in general.
Gate
Airport area, identified with unique combination of letters and numbers, where passengers board the airplanes for their flight or disembark them.
Hotel luggage cart
Wheeled carriage available at many hotels facilitating transport of personal luggage from car to hotel room. The cart can be requested to move own luggage. Service is often provided by hotel bell man.
Continental breakfast
Simple breakfast served at many motels and hotels, consisting of a hot beverage (coffee or tea), milk, juice, and various breads and pastries (bagels, toast, croissants, muffins,...) with butter, cream cheese and jams.
Full bed
Refers to the size of the bed at a hotel. Full bed dimensions are 54" wide by 75" long. A Full Bed is also known as a Double Bed.
